Dermal Filler Removal
What is dermal filler removal?
Filler removal safely and comfortably breaks down hyaluronic acid-based filler treatments (such as Juvederm, Teoxane, Restylane and Belotero).
What are the benefits?
Quick, safe and effective removal of unwanted filler, which may have been placed incorrectly or the cause of complications.
How does it work?
Hyaluronidase (or Hyalase for short) is an enzyme found in small quantities in our skin. If you need your fillers dissolved and removed more quickly, we simply inject safe, more concentrated doses of hyaluronidase to dissolve the filler formula.
While dermal fillers can be bought by almost anyone, and treatment carried out in unsafe environments, hyaluronidase is a prescription-only drug. Dr M highly recommends that you should only ever have dermal filler treatment with a clinic that has hyaluronidase on hand in case of emergencies.
What results can I expect?
Successful results are more likely to be produced by a practitioner who has undergone the right training and is qualified to administer injectable fillers accurately. If you have been unfortunate enough to receive an unsatisfactory result from an unregulated injector, a dissolvable product can naturally reverse the effects.

Filler Dissolving FAQs
-
Dr M treats all her patients personally, starting with the M-ethod™ Consultation to discuss your desired results and expectations.
Once the treatment has been agreed, you will have some pre-treatment photographs taken. A patch test is carried out on your arm to ensure you are not allergic to the enzyme. The treatment area will be cleansed and a numbing cream applied. The technique of dissolving dermal fillers involves carefully placing injections, which normally does not take more than 5 minutes.
Following treatment, you will be offered a review appointment and receive aftercare instructions in your inbox.

The optimal effect is usually visible 72 hours following treatment.
Our aim is to inject the minimal dose to dissolve the unwanted filler, without disrupting the naturally occurring hyaluronic acid in the skin. For this reason, a small quantity of enzyme is injected each treatment. This means that more than one treatment may be required.
-
Dr M usually recommends waiting for at least 4 weeks before considering dermal fillers again. This is to allow the enzyme to be fully metabolised and carried away by your body’s natural systems.
That is why during the M-ethod™ Consultation, Dr M assesses you holistically and creates a bespoke aesthetic treatment plan tailored specifically for you.
-
Dermal filler removal is suitable for all hyaluronic acid-based fillers. If your filler is not hyaluronic acid-based (e.g. Sculptra, Ellanse, Radiesse) this treatment will not work for you. Some types of permanent fillers can only be removed surgically.
-
Yes, a patch test is done at least 20 minutes prior to the treatment. This is to check for any allergic reactions that would mean it is not safe to proceed.
-
We advise avoiding blood-thinning medications such as aspirin or ibuprofen (unless instructed by your doctor) 3 days before your treatment. We also recommend avoiding alcohol 24 hours before your treatment.
