Sun Damage
Ultraviolet (UV) rays from the sun lead to premature skin cell death and DNA alteration. Prolonged exposure without protection can lead to skin cancers and signs of skin ageing. In fact, research has shown that up to 90% of skin ageing is the direct consequence of sun damage. Sun damage may present as wrinkles, pigmentation, uneven skin tone and texture, broken capillaries and skin thinning.
Treatments involve sun protection and aim to regulate the function of skin cells and skin turnover. Extrinsic factors that aggravate the condition include smoking, diet and lifestyle.
